It is best to post it using Airsure so that you can track its journey. This should give you peace of mind with it containing the important documents. You may wish to insure it, as the documents you have enclosed may be expensive to replace. However, the IRS will not pay to insure the documents when they are returned.

It is possible to take documents to the US Embassy in London or to certain companies to have them authorise them. This will mean that you will not have to post out your ID.
